Biogram	Claes Goran Frostell urodził się 3 maja 1952 r. w Sollentuna w Szwecji. Studia medyczne ukończył w Instytucie Karolińskim w Sztokholmie w 1977 r. Po studiach odbywał szkolenie specjalistyczne z anestezjologii i intensywnej terapii oraz zajmował się pracą naukową w szpitalach uniwersyteckich w Sztokholmie. W 1987 r. uzyskał specjalizację z anestezjologii i intensywnej terapii. W 1989 r. otrzymał stanowisko docenta w Klinice Anestezjologii i Intensywnej Terapii Instytutu Karolińskiego. W latach 1989-1991 przebywał na stypendium w Szkole Medycznej Harvard w Bostonie. Po powrocie do Szwecji zorganizował i objął kierownictwo Oddziału Intensywnej Terapii Dziecięcej w nowym Szpitalu Dziecięcym Astrid Lindgren. W 2001 r. uzyskał tytuł profesora anestezjologii w Instytucie Karolińskim. Kierował ośrodkiem badań eksperymentalnych w anestezjologii i intensywnej terapii. W 2005 r. został mianowany kierownikiem Kliniki Anestezjologii i Intensywnej Terapii Instytutu Karolińskiego w Sztokholmie w Szpitalu Solna. Jest członkiem wielu prestiżowych towarzystw naukowych i międzynarodowych grup ekspertów i zespołów doradczych zajmujących się intensywną terapią. Laureat wielu nagród, a wśród nich nagrody „Odkrywca Roku”, którą uzyskał wraz z Warrenem M. Zapolem (2003 r. w Waszyngtonie) za wprowadzenie innowacyjnej terapii wziewnym tlenkiem azotu. Prof. Claes Frostell jest jednym z największych na świecie autorytetów z zakresu biologii tlenku azotu i jego wykorzystania w praktyce klinicznej. Prof. Andrzej Kübler, kierownik Katedry Anestezjologii i Intensywnej Terapii Akademii Medycznej we Wrocławiu, nawiązał kontakt naukowy z prof. Frostellem w pierwszej połowie lat 90. XX w., co pozwoliło na realizację we wrocławskiej klinice grantu KBN poświęconego zastosowaniu wziewnego tlenku azotu w leczeniu ostrej niewydolności oddechowej. Od 1999 r. rozpoczęto regularną współpracę szkoleniową i naukowo-badawczą między obydwoma ośrodkami. W 2004 r. z jego inicjatywy zorganizowano we Wrocławiu ośrodek badań eksperymentalnych z zakresu intensywnej terapii określony jako „oddział intensywnej terapii dla zwierząt”. Dzięki stworzeniu takiego warsztatu badawczego można było realizować projekty dotyczące wstrząsu endotoksycznego, a następnie wstrząsu septycznego w przebiegu zapalenia otrzewnej u świń. Badania te były realizowane przez zespoły anestezjologów z Instytutu Karolińskiego i Katedry Anestezjologii AM we Wrocławiu przy pomocy zespołu Zakładu Chirurgii Eksperymentalnej i Badania Biomateriałów AM we Wrocławiu. Od 2007 r. badania są prowadzone na bazie i we współpracy z Wydziałem Weterynarii Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego we Wrocławiu. W badaniach organizowanych dwa razy w roku aktywnie uczestniczy Zakład Histologii i Embriologii AM we Wrocławiu. Prof. Frostell jest głównym pomysłodawcą tematów badań i pozyskuje fundusze na ich realizację. W 2006 r. rektorzy Akademii Medycznej we Wrocławiu oraz Karolińskiego Instytutu w Sztokholmie podpisali umowę o wzajemnej współpracy naukowej i szkoleniowej, która została przedłużona w 2009 r. Karoliński Instytut Medycyny jest uczelnią znajdującą się na czołowym miejscu w rankingu europejskich uniwersytetów medycznych i bardzo wysoko w rankingach światowych. Bezpośrednie umowy o współpracy tej uczelni z innymi ważnymi szkołami medycznymi są rzadkością i tym bardziej cenne jest porozumienie z Akademią Medyczną we Wrocławiu stwarzające szerokie możliwości współpracy. Inicjatorem podpisania tej umowy i reprezentantem strony szwedzkiej jest prof. Claes Frostell. (Polish) Description in another language: Claes Goran Frostell was born in Sollentuna in Sweden on May 3, 1952. In 1977 completed his medical studies at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. After graduation he received a specialist training in anaesthesiology and intensive care, and continued his research at university clinical hospitals in Stockholm. In 1987 finished the first step of his training in anaesthesiology and intensive care. In 1989 he was nominated for assistant professorship in the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Next he obtained a fellowship to spend a study period at the Harvard Medical School in Boston between 1989 and 1991. After having returned to Sweden, he organized and became Head of the Department of Intensive Children Care in the new Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital. In 2001 was appointed professor in anaesthesiology at Karolinska Institutet and then headed centre of experimental research. In 2005 he was nominated Head of the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Karolinska Institutet in Solna. A member of many prestigious scientific societies and international groups of experts, and advisory teams dealing with intensive care. Receiver of many awards, e.g. The Inventor of the Year Award which he received with Warren M. Zapol in 2003 in Washington for their invention of a system to safely deliver inhaled nitric oxide gas. Professor is acknowledged as one of the world’s highest authorities in the field of biology of nitrogen oxide and its application in clinical practice. Co-operation between professor Frostell and professor Andrzej Kübler, Head of Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of Wroclaw Medical University, was initiated in the first half of the 1990s and resulted in completing a research grant from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education which dealt with application of nitrogen oxide in treatment of acute respiratory malfunction. Since 1999 both institutions carry out regular scientific and educational co-operation. In 2004, on his own initiative, a center of experimental research in intensive care, described as "Division of Intensive Care for Animals", was organized in Wroclaw. Thanks to the creation of such research workshop, it was possible to carry out projects on endotoxic shock and then septic shock in the course of peritonitis among pigs. These tests were carried out by teams of anaesthesiologists from the Karolinska Institutet and the Department of Anaesthesiology from Wroclaw Medical University, with the help of the team of the Department of Experimental Surgery and Biomaterials Research from Wroclaw Medical University. Since 2007 this research has been carried out in co-operation with Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The Department of Histology and Embryology of the Wroclaw Medical University actively participates in the research organized twice a year. Professor was the main originator of the research topics and, thanks to his efforts, the funds for their realization could be ensured. In 2006 Rectors of Wroclaw Medical University and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm signed the agreement on bilateral co-operation in the field of science and education, which was prolonged in 2009. Karolinska Institutet is regularly ranked at leading positions among European medical universities and placed high in the worldwide rankings. Karolinska Institutet rarely signs agreements on direct co-operation with other universities, so the agreement with the Wroclaw Medical University must be highly evaluated as it opens a wide range of mutual activities. From the Swedish side, professor Frostell was the initiator and representative of this agreement. (English)
