Miasto Burgos zostało założone w 884 roku przez hrabiego Diego Rodrigueza Porcelosa na polecenie króla Alfonsa III, w celu stworzenia fortecy, która pomogłaby powstrzymać Saracenów. Katedra Santa María w Burgos, zwana również katedrą Matki Boskiej z Burgos, została zbudowana w stylu gotyckim, pomiędzy XIII a XVI wiekiem i słynie z unikalnej kolekcji dzieł sztuki, w tym obrazów, rzeźb, stall chórowych, grobowców i witraży. Budowę katedry rozpoczęto w 1221 roku, a zakończono w 1567 roku. Budynek wzniesiono na planie krzyża łacińskiego, o wymiarach 84 na 59 metrów. Transept posiada dwa imponujące portale: Puerta del Sarmental od południa i Puerta de la Coronería od północy. Trójkondygnacyjna elewacja, sklepienie i ornamentyka okien są podobne do gotyckich katedr północnej Francji. Dwupiętrowy gotycki krużganek został ukończony w 1280 roku. Capilla Mayor, zaprojektowany przez Rodrigo i Martin de la Haya, Domingo de Berriz, i Juan de Anchieta (1562-1580) reprezentuje styl renesansowy. Inne wspaniałe dzieła sztuki to grobowiec Enrique de Peralta y Cardenas w kaplicy Świętej Marii, kaplica Santa Tecla i "Trascoro" z XVIII wieku. (Polish) Description in another language: The city of Burgos was founded in 884, by the Count Diego Rodriguez Porcelos under the orders of The King Alfonso III, in purpose to establish a fortress that would help to stop the Saracens The Santa María Cathedral in Burgos, also called Our Lady of Burgos, was built in Gothic style, between 13th and 16th century and it is famous for its unique collection of works of art, including paintings, sculptures, choir stalls, tombs and stained-glass windows. The construction of the cathedral began in 1221 and was completed in 1567. The plan is based on a Latin Cross, 84 by 59 metres, and the transept has two impressive portals: Puerta del Sarmental from the south and Puerta de la Coronería from the north. The three-story elevation, the vaulting, and the tracery of the windows are similar to the Gothic cathedrals of the north of France. The two-storied Gothic cloister was completed in 1280. The Capilla Mayor, designed by Rodrigo and Martin de la Haya, Domingo de Berriz, and Juan de Anchieta (1562-1580) represents the Renaissance style. Other magnificent pieces of art are the tomb of Enrique de Peralta y Cardenas in the chapel of Saint Mary, the chapel of Santa Tecla, and the "trascoro" of the 18th century. (English) |
